In doing so, all of us, Yi and non-Yi alike, have also backed off a bit and examined what we are doing, how we can forge stronger links between local concerns of promotion and cosmopolitan ones of connection and comparison. There is, as yet, no comprehensive picture of Yi society and culture in any language. We hope that the essays presented here can serve as building blocks for such a comprehensive work in the near future.
