The study focuses on morphological and chemical properties and genesis of urban soils of the historical part of Saint Petersburg. The urban soils of the city varied not only in the depth of anthropogenic layers but also in presence of buried native soils which formed in pre-urban environment. The buried native soils were represented by Histosoils, Histic Gleysols, Umbric Gleysols and Albic Podzols. Selected properties of the urban soils (pH, organic carbon content, total concentrations of Cu, Pb and Zn, content of plant available K and P) were determined.
