An observation of projectile free flight behavior - that above Mach 2.5, velocity is linear with distance - leads to a proposed simple functional form for the drag coefficient. Equations are derived that allow the determination of both the zero-yaw drag coefficient (as a function of Mach number) and the yaw-drag coefficient from as few as two test firings. Good agreement with free-flight range data has been obtained.
