Watertown, Massachusetts: Army Materials and Mechanics Research Center, 1974. — 28 p.The motion of a projectile fired vertically upward is examined in some detail and the equations which express the instantaneous velocity and time of flight as a function of projectile diameter, weight, configuration, muzzle velocity, and air density are determined.
Based on these equations a computer program has been developed which allows the velocity, time of flight, and vertical range to be calculated for any projectile weight, diameter, and drag coefficient. The Fortran listing of the program is given in the report.
The results of a sample problem which considers the effect of drag variation on the time of flight is presented.
