Reilly Alayne. America in Contemporary Soviet Literature
New York; London: New York University Press; London University Press, 1971. — 228 p. — ISBN: 8147-7350-8
This book was undertaken because of the writer’s deep interest in Soviet-American relations and the noticeable trend during the 1960s toward honest, non-propagandist descriptions of America by several leading Soviet writers. The findings of the study are far more revealing and extensive than had been supposed and should be of interest to the general reader as well as to the specialist in Soviet affairs. All of the sources are readily available outside the Soviet Union; indeed, several have been published only in the West. English translations of most of the works can be found in any university library. Unless otherwise specified all translations from the Russian are my own. As for the transliteration of Russian words found in the text and the notes, scholarship defers to readability and accepted usage. However, standard transliteration is followed in the Bibliography.
