This multivariable calculus book has been designed as a multi-course text. The first six chapters might be used as a third semester calculus course as it contains the usual topics, namely vectors in R
3, quadric surfaces, curves in R
3, continuous and differential functions defined in R
3, extremum problems, multiple integrals and vector calculus in R
3. The subject material has been developed using the computer algebra mathematica to augment the teaching of the course. We do not believe in using canned programs, where, for example, you just plug in the coordinates of a point and the parameters defining a plane, which then reports to you the distance of the point to the plane. This does not teach a student mathematics. We try to have the student devise mathematica functions or modules which do the calculations. The student is then required to understand the mathematical theory before setting out to devise a module or a function.
