Braun Otto. A Comintern Agent in China, 1932-1939
Stanford University Press, 1982. — 314 p.
Communist journalist and functionary of the Communist Party of Germany with a long and varied career. His most significant role was as a Comintern agent sent to China in 1934, to advise the Communist Party of China on military strategy during the Chinese Civil War. At the time Braun adopted a Chinese name, Li De. It's an account of a German communist who worked in China in the 1930s, was quite powerful for a time and was pushed aside when Mao became the leading figure on the Long March. He has some interesting remarks about the relations between Mao and Zhou Enlai at the time, but is not an impartial source.
