The crude/vacuum distillation system is the first step in oil refining. Therefore, the equipment must be large enough to process the total crude oil feed to the refinery. Because of the large amount of heat that must be added to distill the crude oil products, the potential for saving operational costs is significant. A few degrees of waste heat reocvery produce considerable savings in furnace fuel. Studies with simulation models are quite useful for improving the waste heat recovery from the crude/vacuum sustem products.
