Glass. History, Manufacture and Its Universal Application
Pittsburgh: Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, 1923. — 215 p.
This book endeavors to give an account of glass-making from the crude furnaces of early times to the mammoth plants of today, and to indicate how much more widespread the use of this worldmaterial inevitably must become in the near future. The truly remarkable development of the industry in the United States is ascribed in large measure to the labors of the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company. ‘To its success in perfecting processes, in devising new methods, and especially in working out mechanical refinements in all departments, is due the fact that today American plate glass is unequaled in beauty and sustained quality. The long-maintained and continuing educational work carried on by this Company has spread far and wide a new appreciation of the supreme usefulness of fine glass; and a demand vastly enlarged and still expanding has been met by commensurate development of scientific methods in distribution. The Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company at all times has given freely to users of glass all possible information and every assistance, and the following pages are presented as a part of such service. The scope of “Pittsburgh Service” is explained in some detail. Every person in any way interested is invited to take full advantage of the technical and other aid this organization stands ready to render.
