The book begins with the fundamentals and covers simple bars and frames to the more advanced topics concerning plates, vibration, and buckling of bars and plates. As stated by the author, "This book is concerned almost exclusively with displacement type analysis, that is, with the type of analysis in which the displacements rather than the forces are the primary variables. Force-type analysis is given very brief attention." The book consists of 12 chapters and 2 appendices. The latter reports on the matrix algebra and solution of equations plus the use of the principle of virtual displacements in the finite element method.
