Tall Zira'a: The Gadara Region Project (2001-2011): Final Reports: Volume 1: Introduction
Gütersloher Verlagshaus, 2017. — 292 p.
Edited by: Dieter Vieweger and Jutta Häser
The settlement mound of Tall Zirā’a, located in Wādī al-‘Arab in Jordan, was continuously inhabited for at least 5,000 years and provides unique insights into the lives of the people of this region. An artesian spring at its center has created optimal settlement conditions for millennia, making the site of particular archaeological interest: It offers the rare opportunity to establish a comparative stratigraphy of northern Jordan from the Early Bronze Age to the Islamic period, thus tracing cultural developments in urban life, crafts, and religious history over long periods of time. Furthermore, abundant remains from the biblical period can be examined in a broad cultural and historical context. As part of the Gadara Region Project, archaeologists excavated at Tall Zirā’a for ten years. The results of the excavation sessions will be presented in nine planned volumes in English.
